Advancing Regenerative Organic Cotton in the Turkey

We are proud to share that the two research projects we are part of — “Development of Regenerative Organic Agriculture Practices in Cotton Production” and “Studies on Restoring Agroecosystems for Regenerative Organic Cotton Production in the Aegean Region” — have been extended for an additional two years.

These projects are conducted jointly by Egedeniz Textile, ETO (The Association of Ecological Agriculture Organization), and UTAEM, within the framework of a TAGEM programme. Building on the positive outcomes achieved since 2022, we have expanded and further developed this work to strengthen the adoption of regenerative organic cotton production systems across the Aegean Region.

Learning in the Field

Field activities continue at the research site in Menemen-Ortaköy, Türkiye, where we recently organized a Field Day demonstrating direct seeding following mulch application. The event brought together cotton producers, agricultural advisors, textile industry representatives, and distinguished guests from Textile Exchange, including Renske Koster (Cotton Engagement Manager) and Rajan Bhopal (Cotton and Crop Lead).

For us, these gatherings are at the heart of the work. Regenerative cotton farming is a continuous learning process that depends on collaboration across the entire value chain — from the soil and the farmer to the spinner, the brand, and the end consumer.

A Milestone for the Value Chain

We are especially proud to announce that Egedeniz Textile has officially joined the Regenerative Organic Alliance (ROA) community, becoming one of the first Turkish textile companies to align with this global framework. For us, ROA membership is more than a certification pathway — it is a commitment to the principles of soil health, animal welfare, and social fairness that underpin truly regenerative production.

Why Regenerative Cotton Matters

Through these projects, our aim is not only to generate scientific and practical knowledge, but also to support the restoration of agroecosystems, improve soil health, enhance biodiversity, and increase climate resilience in cotton production systems. As a textile company built on organic and ecological values, we believe the future of our industry begins in the field — with healthier soil and more resilient farms.

What Comes Next

We will continue organizing Field Days and knowledge-sharing activities to disseminate our experiences at every stage of regenerative cotton farming, and to encourage wider adoption of these practices throughout the value chain. We sincerely thank all of our project partners, farmers, researchers, advisors, and stakeholders for their contributions and commitment to advancing regenerative agriculture. We would like to extend our special and heartfelt thanks to Ülfet Erdal, Uygun Aksoy, and Özge Çiçekçi for this valuable partnership and for their continued dedication to this shared vision.
